Women's Ignis 10k

On Sunday the 8th of May, the streets of Glasgow will be filled with female runners of all ages taking part in the 2011 women's Ignis 10k. The race will set off from the south side of Glasgow in the Bellahouston park at 10am along with various other locations all over the UK. There are about 12,000 runners expected to take part from all over the UK raising money for numerous different charitie, such as Alzheimer Scotland and Cancer Research UK. The run is a well know to be the largest and friendliest women's 10k with a great atmosphere on the day.
Applicants are able to apply online and they recieve a race pack when they enter. On the website, a training scheduale is providing for runners of all abilites from beginners to elite to follow in the weeks running up to the race day. Run4lt are this years Ignis 10k sportswear partner. They have teamed up with other key suppliers such as Gore running wear, asics footwear and shock absorber sportsbras to offer participants some great products and deals.
Within the 10k there are three additional team challenges open to specific categories in which teams of a minimum of four can enter. These are; corporate and community challenge which is open to companies, charities and community groups, the family challenge which is available for familiy teams and finally the scottish athletics team challenge which is open to scottish athletics team members.  The winning team is calculated on the basis of the finishing position of the top 4 runners in the team.
In the run up to the event other smaller gatherings are held. The up coming event in prepartion for the 10k is a pasta party in which participants are invited to take part in a 2 mile run through the town finishing at DiMaggio's where a meal is provided.
With just 34 days to go, thoes taking part will be training hard in preparation before taking to the streets in their thousands to raise money for there charity, and enjoy a fantastic day out with family, friends and meet many new people.
